Golden Buddha and The Mall of Art

Summary

  • Thailand has quite a few gold structures, but the Golden Buddha has a dense gold layer and a metallic surface.
  • The Golden Mount was being repaired, but it still features a large Golden Buddha in another building.
  • I didn't know there was an art district around Chinatown, which is like a department store for art.
  • The night market is amazing for its price and variety, but some of the stalls are more organized and expensive.
  • The baked meat here is a little oily and crispy, and intuitively delicious.

Highlights

The Golden Mount

  • It was being repaired, but I could still see some of it from the gaps.
  • The mount is on a hill, and there is a garden with a waterfall along the way. You can ring the bell too.

The Golden Buddha

  • Unbelievably, this Buddha is made of gold not only on the surface but also inside. Therefore, it's worth more than 100 million dollars today and is a one-of-a-kind statue in the world.
  • Usually, a golden Buddha has a matte surface, but this one is as smooth as a mirror, reflecting the scenes around it.

Wat Benchamabophit Dusitwanaram

  • This temple is relatively small but has a beautiful structure, and the Buddha here is stunning.

River City Bangkok

  • The mall is designed exclusively for art and features modern art and antiques.
  • Every gallery is photogenic and surprisingly free to enter.
  • The art precisely captures people's minds, and it is mind-boggling.
  • Tokyo also has many galleries, but this massive aggregation of galleries designed for artists is beneficial for both visitors and artists, who benefit from the flow of people, and I hope to see something like this in Tokyo as well.

Night Market

  • I went to One Ratchada and JODD FAIRS Rama 9, but those are more organized and expensive. The one in the mall is actually more convenient and cheaper.
  • However, the shops may change by date, so it might be good to visit on different days.

Other Interesting Places

  • There is a bare tunnel walkway at Samyan MRT station, and we cannot tell how the tunnel was constructed. This blue line was actually built with support from Japan as well.
  • The department store in Thailand is unique, and I found something different there too.

Food

  • My friend recommended Tamarind, but it had a strange taste like plum, and the large seed made the edible part too small.
  • Pandan was sweet and tasted good as usual.
  • The Golden Chicken was actually tastier than the meat; it’s crispy and fragrant.
  • We tend to get thirsty here, but the soup is always spicy, so you must bring water.

Conclusion

  • Art can potentially attract people and revitalize the city.
  • Today's art tends to focus on human emotions and call for sympathy. The technique is important, but what feelings the art might evoke in people is much more significant.
  • Observing the modernization of the market, I felt that urbanization is a battle with inflation. Building neat places requires money, and we have to find ways to recover that money. Creating comfortable places is great, but they still need to be affordable.
  • Pandan offers a unique flavor that no other ingredient has, so I want to use unique ingredients in Japanese or other common dishes as well.
