【Travel in America #12】Downtown Tampa

Introduction

Tampa Police Museum & Tampa Firefighters Museum

I frequently saw the police and firefighters especially Tampa and essential to keep the city's order. Both museums were free and only had one story. The facility was different from the Japanese one and I had a new discovery even though it was not the first time to visited that kind of museum.

Tampa Bay History Center

The admission was somewhat expensive, but it was so useful to store my heavy carry case, and several high-quality theaters inside were definitely worth it. While we cannot know the quality of theater on Google Maps it really affects satisfaction and we should consider comparing other activities that offer similar activities like theater or acting. Especially if they offer an experience you have never tried and a cheaper than a similar activity it's definitely worth trying.

The museum also had a dedicated room exhibiting the city planning of Florida and looked good to me as a Cities Skylines lover.

American Victory Ship & Museum

The ship has been used in WWII has been transformed into this museum. This is just a single ship but it's actually extremely large and has 7 stories in total. The props were preserved as it was used to be and several videos explaining the history of this ship were played. As this ship called Victory Ship, America concluded WWII with victory in contrast to Japan. Therefore the perception of WWII is quite different from that of Japan that the war should be avoided in any case. The exhibition was more like acclaiming the feat that the ship had made rather than thinking of the war as a mistake.

The inside of the ship was dirty and I felt I didn't like to stay there as a sailor.

I could see the engine from above and the complex structure of the machine was exciting. Unfortunately, I couldn't go down to the lower level, but walking through the engine room was like doing a skywalk in the gloomy room, and the feeling was like a video game, especially Genshin Impact Scaramouche domain.

Overall, strolling the preserved room was so immersive, and the experience was thrilling like a haunted house.

The guest house

The personal space was so spacy and I was comfortable staying there. But the shared bathroom is actually dirty compared to Japanese quality and I didn't dare to use it. But the talk to the host was nice, and I hope to have more conversations next journey since I had limited conversations with the people I met or talked to in Japanese. The actual conversation won't go easy like VR Chat.

Food

I ate Quisaddia at nature's table which was really cheap and nice.

The health-oriented supermarket Greenwise is expensive but everything there looked so delicious, and I felt it might be better than eating out. It also has an affordable restaurant inside.

This is the food called poke and is somewhat similar to the Japanese Kaisen Don wasabi and ginger attached.

Scenery

Compared to Boston everything in Tampa is really new and the architectural style is completely different. The class on the building is designed to reflect the sunlight and is really shiny.

The art style in Tampa is also nice and I could feel the cheerful atmosphere of Tampa.

Transportation

Surprisingly Tampa has a free tram system which is traditional. Although the coverage is quite small, Tampa downtown has an extensive bus system with a $2 fare that can be paid by credit card.

Conclusion

I spent around $50 on this day, but the experience was unique and valuable. Having money and freedom is the most important thing, and I felt like Malaysia might be better than Tampa in terms of lower cost of living and freedom of transportation. Asian countries are becoming more powerful, and because of innovation dilemmas, the new technology might be adopted earlier in Asian countries. Next time I really want to experience Chinese advanced technology. Also, police and army are not necessary when the world is peaceful and I think we should spend more money on education and technological advancement.
