【Travel in America #9】JFK Library

Introduction

Boston has so many libraries but some of them are completely different from what Japanese people imagine, and it's more like museums.

Transportation

I usually use Logan Express to travel from Framingham to Boston. However, I tried to use the commuter train to travel cheaply. I thought that the train was more punctual than the bus, but it was not really true. The train was suddenly canceled due to track work. Also, the fare system that was charged inside the train was also confusing. I expect to pay before the ride but the station is actually not secluded and buy a ticket inside of the train and I cannot move from the selected seat. While this train is two-story, that was almost empty and not so fast due to track problems.

Commonwealth Museum

This museum is completely free and right next to the JFK Library. The museum exhibition is passive and doesn't take so much time if we walk through but the contents themselves were very attractive.

JFK Library

This museum is called the library, however, most people would recognize it as a library because of the theater and visually appearing exhibits inside. I didn't expect to spend the whole day in this museum but the content was so intriguing and I read most of descriptions.

Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate right next to the museum looked also very interesting, but unfortunately, it's not open to the public and requires reservation. It's sad to know that because this information could not be found via Google Maps.

The museum stores items the president has actually used, and they are displayed with straightforward and visual descriptions.

The exhibit explains how JFK became president, his achievements, and the historical background of that time. This museum also preserves the stone of the moon.

We can see the beautiful harbor view and the national flag from the pavilion.

Mathworks

My friend guided me to the office and I saw the many beautiful art based on mathematics. The company offers free drinks and meals and also a dedicated personal workspace for every worker. I feel the building is slightly monotonous but overall I thought that was a really nice working environment.

Food

I tried the Brazilian food, and it cost $20 in total. The price will be calculated based on the pound and hard to predict the actual price. Sometimes rice is not available, and although the meat was so tasty, I feel overwhelmed by the heavy meat.

This is the bread with pork frost. Even though china is right next to Japan pork frost is really hard to obtain. Chinese food was cheap and delicious compared to other food in the United States.
